Collaboration: Design, hardware, software, and application teams; external academic collaboratorsAbout Nord Quantique
At Nord Quantique, we strive to build impactful technology by relentlessly pushing our understanding of quantum science. We are an interdisciplinary team of scientists, engineers, innovators, builders, and enthusiasts on a mission to make quantum computing a reality. Our quantum processors are designed to reduce errors in quantum computation to facilitate long-term scaling toward fully-fledged quantum computers. Leaning on more than a decade of vertical integration of quantum hardware, we are leveraging a comprehensive pool of quantum technology and micro-electronic infrastructure to deploy our quantum computing technology.
Our current needs
As part of our continued growth, we are seeking a new leader to guide our well-established theory team and help shape its next chapter. While scientific insight remains important, we are especially looking for someone who thrives by supporting others — someone who can create an environment where researchers are empowered, motivated, and resilient in the face of tough, unsolved challenges.
The theory team contributes to our quantum processor development by advancing both foundational understanding and applied modeling of bosonic fault-tolerant quantum computing. Their work spans topics such as multimode bosonic codes, autonomous QEC protocols, cQED modeling, and the interpretation of experimental results.
You don’t need to be an expert in all of these areas — what matters most is your ability to support a team working at this frontier, help them stay aligned and focused, and guide their collective impact as part of Nord Quantique’s roadmap. We support learning and growth within the role and value leadership experience from a range of backgrounds.
Success in this role depends not only on technical guidance, but on building trust, fostering open communication, and sustaining a shared sense of purpose within the team.
Working in close collaboration with technical leads across the company, the candidate will:
- Lead and support the day-to-day work of the Theory team, ensuring that each team member has what they need to thrive — scientifically, professionally, and with care for their well-being.
- Foster a motivating, respectful, and collaborative environment within the team and across interfaces with other groups.
- Contribute to defining the team’s structure and support its growth through mentoring, recruitment, and skill development.
- Guide research efforts and ensure alignment with Nord Quantique’s roadmap and hardware development priorities.
The selected candidate will operate within a highly dynamic environment and will have the opportunity to shape both the technical direction and team structure of a key component of Nord Quantique’s roadmap.
Education and experience requirements :
- PhD in Physics, Quantum Information, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in quantum theory or quantum computing research.
- Experience leading or coordinating theoretical efforts in an academic or industrial setting.
- Strong background in interdisciplinary collaboration and research-to-development transfer.
Sought expertise and knowledge:
The team’s work spans two complementary areas of focus. We welcome candidates with experience in either axis — and especially those motivated to grow into new areas of expertise.
- Bosonic QEC Axis:
- Understanding of quantum error correction principles and their implementation.
- Design and analysis of bosonic codes, especially multimode grid codes (i.e. multimode generalization of the GKP code).
- Strategies for bosonic autonomous error correction and logical operations.
- cQED & System-Level Modeling Axis:
- Modeling of cQED dynamics in superconducting quantum systems.
- Optimization of pulse-level control strategies.
- System-level performance modeling, including coherence and error budgets.
- Core expertise shared by the two axes:
- Familiarity with open quantum systems and decoherence mechanisms.
- Experience with numerical modeling and analytical analysis.
- Strong communication and scientific documentation practices.
Sought profile:
- Ability to build, mentor, and lead a collaborative research team.
- Leadership grounded in empathy and respect for individual growth.
- Clear and inclusive communication across diverse technical teams.
- Comfort managing multiple projects and aligning execution with evolving priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills grounded in scientific rigor.
- Commitment to advancing quantum computing and building meaningful technology.
- Fluent in English.
- Intermediate or higher level of French is an asset.
